System Landscape: Create Logical Components, Solution Manager

The “System Landscape: Create Logical Components” tutorial.

After completing the session you will have a good overview of:

  • Creating logical components
  • User of logical components in projects
  • User of logical components in solutions

SAP Easy Access
A logical component is an administration unit that assigns a product to logical systems in the various system roles. A  logical component is unique in your system landscape. To start double click on “SMSY System Landscape”.

Click on logical Components to expand the tree.

Click on SAP R/3 to expand the tree.

Click on R/3 Server.

Right Click on R/3 Server.

System Landscape
Choose “Create New Logical Components” from the context menu.

Enter “Z_R3ITUTOR” then press Tab.

System Landscape
Enter R/3 for iTutor then press Tab.

 

 System Landscape
Click on “Continue”.

 

Logical Component Z_R3ITUTOR Change
To use a logical Component in System Groups, the status in this field has to be “active”. Only active Logical Components can be used in solutions.
Press Enter to continue.

You now assign systems to your logical component in different system roles. Start with the development system and click on dropdown icon.

Select system AI1-000.

Click on “Copy”.

To assign a quality assurance system click on dropdown icon.

Select System BBC-000.

Click on “Copy”.

To assign a production system click on dropdown icon.

Select system CI9-000.

Click on “Copy”.

Save your data.

To do a consistency check, click on the icon “Consistency Check”.

Check box “Solution Directory”.

Click on “Continue”.

As you can see, the created Logical Component is consistent. Press Enter to continue.

To see where the Component is used, click on button “Where-used list”.

As you can see in the attention box below, the Logical Component is not in use.

 

 SAP Easy Access
Call up transaction “Project Administration”.

 

SAP Solution Manager: Project Administration
Select project ITUTORLOG.

 

SAP Solution Manager: Project Administration
Edit the project.

SAP Solution Manager: Change Project

Go to tab System Landscape.

On tab “Systems”, choose value help to select a logical component.

Select logical component Z_R3ITUTOR.

Click on “OK”.

Save your changes.

You cannot change a logical component in the project administration but in the system landscape maintenance. To go to the system landscape maintenance double click on the logical component you want to change.

Double click on transaction Solution Manager.

 

SAP Solution Manager: Active Solutions
This icon shows that you have to match existing logical components with your solution. Click on the icon.

SAP Solution Manager: Active Solutions
As from release 3.20, logical components in your system landscape have to be unique. In this screen you can compare your old logical components that might not have been unique with automatically generated logical components and replace old logical components. In this demo we will stop here. You find further information in the SAP Tutor on the “Solution Directory”.

This icon shows that you have to match existing logical components with your solution. Click on the icon.

To create a new solution click on “New”.

In this screen you maintain header data for your solution. To maintain technical data and assign logical components you would click on the edit button. In this demo we will stop here.
