How to activate the Data Volume Management Workcenter in SAP Solution Manager?

Please follow these steps to activate the Data Volume Management (DVM) Workcenter in SAP Solution Manager:
1. Ensure Pre-conditions are Fulfilled
Before you start, make sure the following pre-conditions are met:
- Version 7.2 or higher of SAP Solution Manager has been installed and configured.
- Users such as SAP_SM_DVM_ALL or SAP_SM_DVM_USER are allocated the appropriate roles for Data Volume Management (DVM).
2. Assign Necessary Authorizations
Provide users who will be accessing the DVM Workcenter with the required roles and authorizations:
- SAP_SM_DVM_ALL (for full access)
- SAP_SM_DVM_USER (for standard user access)
These roles help users to access and work with the DVM Workcenter.
3. Activate DVM in SAP Solution Manager
To activate DVM functionalities please follow the steps below:

Log into SAP Solution Manager:
- Run t-code SOLMAN_SETUP to access the Solution Manager configuration.

Navigate to Data Volume Management:
- In the
SOLMAN_SETUP
menu, select Scenario Configuration and look for Data Volume Management (DVM). - Choose the Basic Configuration option within Data Volume Management.

Perform System Preparation and Basic Configuration:
- Study the system preparation and basic configuration steps needed for DVM. These steps can include activating relevant business functions for SAP Solution Manager (such as those related to DVM and Root Cause Analysis).

Connect Managed Systems:
- Make sure that SAP Solution Manager is properly connected to your managed systems and that data collection is set up for those systems. In order for DVM to gather pertinent data from satellite systems, this is important.

Activate DVM Monitoring:
- Establish the DVM data collecting schedule, including the performance indicators and regular check-in times.
- Turn on monitoring specifically for Data Volume Management to start gathering information on trends, table sizes, and database expansion.
4. Access Data Volume Management Workcenter
Once the setup and configuration are complete, you can access the DVM Workcenter in SAP Solution Manager by:
- Going to the Fiori Launchpad or for the older version go directly to the Workcenter navigation area.
- Under the Solution Manager work centers search and select Data Volume Management.
This is where you can monitor and control the amount of data, examine database growth patterns, examine table sizes, and receive recommendations for data reduction or archiving tactics.
5. Configure Additional Settings (Optional)
- According to the user need one can configure threshold values for alerts and fine-tune the data collection settings.

Enter transaction SOLMAN_SETUP in your SAP Solution Manager system.
Perform sections "System Preparation", "Basic Configuration" and "Managed Systems Configuration" for the relevant managed system(s).
All three sections need to have GREEN ratings for the relevant managed system(s). Enter section "Data Volume Management" and perform all automatice activities.
