How do handover projects into operations mode with the SAP Solution Manager?

In this tutorial we will go through the checklists for transferring a project into operations mode with SAP Solution Manager will be explained. The transfer of finished project deliverables to a live production environment is a crucial step that guarantees seamless operations, ongoing support, and process monitoring.

What is Operations Mode in SAP Solution Manager?

When a project is turned over to operations, the goal is to make sure that there are as few disruptions as possible to the business's ongoing operations.

  • Configuration assignment
  • Documentation management
  • Testing and end-user training
  • Incident management and process monitoring

Step-by-Step Process for Handover into Operations Mode

1. Review Solution Directory and Business Processes

All solution information is centralized in the Solution Directory of SAP Solution Manager. Before submitting the project, make sure that:

  • Every interface, business procedure, and setting has documentation.
  • The usage of critical processes in production has been examined and authorized.
  • Every process has current documentation, including flow diagrams, configurable parameters, and business situations.

Advantages of the Solution Directory: It lowers the possibility of mistakes during handover by guaranteeing a single source of truth for all parties involved and offering a convenient point of reference for upcoming modifications.

2. Use SAP Easy Access for SAP Solution Manager

Navigate to SAP Easy Access and use the below SAP IMG pat to access SAP Solution Manager:

Menu > Tools > SAP Solution Manager > Solution Operation.

This will bring up the SAP Solution Manager interface where you can start managing your project handover.

3. Add or Update Projects in the Solution Manager

To transfer the project, take the following actions after logging into SAP Solution Manager:

  • Go to the Test Solutions section.
  • To add a new project or oversee one that has already been allocated, choose Project Scoping.
  • To scope the business situations you will be handing over, click on the current project (or start a new one).

The project scope defines which business processes and configurations are included in the handover. This includes setting up monitoring for critical business processes.

4. Managing Business Scenarios

Within the section on the Change Solution Directory:

  • To see the current project scenarios, double-click the Business Scenarios tab.
  • Ensure the project's operational requirements are met by including pertinent business scenarios.
  • Click the arrow, choose the project you want to add, and then assign business processes, like "Managing Customer Information File" or "Test Scenario-Banking," based on your undertaking.

At this stage, make sure the project has all system requirements (such as SAP ECC systems) attached.

5. Testing and Quality Assurance

Once the project has been scoped, test the system to ensure it is operationally ready:

  • In SAP Solution Manager, navigate to the Test Suite.
  • To replicate real-world situations following the handover, run pre-existing test cases or develop new ones.
  • To record any modifications and guarantee regulated transfer across development, quality, and production systems, use the Change Control Management (ChaRM) tool.

By testing, you may reduce the chance of post-handover mistakes and make sure the system is prepared for live operations.

6. End-User Training and Support

A final examination of all training materials should be part of the handover process:

  • In order to examine any end-user training materials, navigate to the SAP Solution Manager's Training Management section.
  • Ensure the operations and support staff are aware of the changes by distributing this information to them.
  • During the shift to operations mode, set up a help desk or other support organization to answer any preliminary questions.

7. Monitor and Support Operations

After the handover is finished, use SAP Solution Manager's Solution Monitoring capabilities to guarantee ongoing system monitoring:

  • For system performance, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Configure alerts for important procedures to make sure that problems are found and fixed as soon as possible.
  • Post-go-live assistance can be managed with Incident Management.

The maintenance of operational stability and the proactive handling of any possible problems depend on ongoing monitoring.
