This SAP Basis tutorial explains the user's step-by-step process to define a new Industries in their SAP system with proper screenshots.
What is an Industry in SAP?
An industry is a distinct group of companies with the same basic business function. The industry key is used in selecting data for evaluations (for example, a vendor master data list). A user can specify industries such as trade, banking, service, manufacturing, health care, public service, media, and so on.
How to Define Industry in SAP?
Please follow the steps below to define an industry:
Execute t-code SPRO in the SAP Command Field and press Enter to execute it.
On the next screen click the SAP Reference IMG button to proceed to the next screen.
Now navigate to the following SAP IMG path:
Business Partner > Customers > Control > Define Industries
Next on the Change View "Industry Keys": Overview screen you will see a list of previously defined Industries Key on your SAP system.
Next, click the New Entries button to define a new Industry.
Next on the new entries screen enter the following details:
Once all the details have been entered click the Save button to save the configuration of the new industry.
Next, select the Customization Request and click the Green Tick button
A message Data was saved will be displayed on the bottom of your screen.
You have successfully defined a new Industry Key 011 in your SAP system.
