Is It Mandatory to Set this Parameter for 11gR2 (11.2.0.3) Data Guard Configuration?

Hello Experts,

I am new to Oracle Data Guard. Oracle version is 11.2.0.3

1) FAL_SERVER, is it mandatory to set this parameter for 11gR2 (11.2.0.3) Data Guard configuration?
2) If we do not configure FAL_SERVER, who is going to fill archives gap at standby?

I really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Yes FAL_SERVER and FAL_CLIENT are mandatory to setup to automatic fill up the archivelog gap.

Yes the only drawback is automatic gap resolution and sometimes worst in case of max protection or availability. however if you have a job that periodically checks for the standby lag- then situation is in control or real time apply isn't required- again this is feasible in small infra..ehen the infra is huge- always best to define FAL.
