As of Release 7.10, the SAP Host Agent is available on all platforms.
Below are some known problems that occur when you use the SAP Host Agent:
1. On Windows, the service SAPHostExec hangs at "Starting" and the service SAPHostControl hangs at "Stopping".
2. On Solaris, the SAP Host Agent unexpectedly terminates.
3. The file dev_saphostexec grows unusually fast.
4. On Windows, the service SAPHostExec terminates immediately after the start.
5. On UNIX, the SAP Host Agent unexpectedly terminates when the Web service method GetComputerSystem() is called.
6. On UNIX, it takes a long time to start or stop an application server instance or a database using the SAP Host Agent or these processes hang.
7. If the name of the source directory contains a blank character, the files cannot be copied during the installation or upgrade.
8. On Windows, saphostexec -install/saphostexec -upgrade hangs.
9. With trace level 3 (host_profile: service/trace = 3), the SAP Host Agent on Solaris unexpectedly terminates when the Web service methods StopInstance and StartInstance are called.
10. On Windows, the Web service methods StartInstance and StopInstance may return the "Instance not found" error although the instance has been installed and all input parameters (SID, NR, SAPLOCALHOST) are correct.
11. When you call the Web service method GetComputerSystem, the sapstartsrv process (SAPHostControl) of the SAP Host Agent terminates unexpectedly. This problem occurs in patch level 34.
12. The automatic upgrade of the SAP Host Agent does not work.
13. The SAP Host Agent does not start on z/OS.
14. Saposcol is not restarted if it terminates unexpectedly.
15. On Windows, you cannot execute the SAP Host Agent programs. When you execute "saphostexec -install", for example, the system issues one of the following error messages: "The system cannot execute the specified program" or "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.".
Solution
The SAP Host Agent is downward-compatible. Therefore, we recommend that you always install the most current version (from SAP Technology Components - SAP HOST AGENT).
Version 720 is currently the latest version; therefore, all further patch information refers to Version 720.
1. As of SAP Host Agent patch level 45, this error is corrected. Before you install the patch, use the Windows Task Manager to terminate the service SAPHostExec and, if required, SAPHostControl (sapstartsrv).
2 - 3. As of SAP Host Agent patch level 45, this error is corrected.
4. To deactivate the automatic start of saposcol, use the profile parameter "hostexec/startoscol=false" in the SAP Host Agent profile (host_profile).
5 - 14. As of SAP Host Agent patch level 45, this error is corrected.
15. Install the Microsoft security patch as described in note 1375494.
