Windows

Windows is an operating system developed by the world famous Microsoft Corporation that is used by people all over the world. It is a very user-friendly operating system, which has a graphical user interface and has many other features. It is available for 64 bit and 32 bit systems, has facilities such as file management, virtual memory, multitasking, virus protection, and supports games with high graphics.

Some of the most popular versions of the OS are Windows XP, Windows 10, Windows 98, Windows 7 and Windows 8. The most recent version Windows 10 was released in 2015. Some of Windows Server versions include 2008 Server, Server 2008 R2 and the most recent version the Windows 2016 Server.

What is MS Window?

MS Windows is an operating system that was developed to let the users make use of their computer’s hardware through a user-friendly interface. Earlier the users had to perform operations in their system through MS-DOS that consisted of commands provided in a command line, which was altered through Windows GUI.

Features of Window

Some of the features of Windows are as follows:

  • It has a Control Panel that can be used for configuring all the settings such as a mouse, keyboard, printers, audio, video, desktop, date and time, user accounts, etc.
  • The Windows Explorer or File Explorer is used for organizing, find, delete, sort, open and rename the files in your memory. The content of the hard drives, removable disks, and SSD can also be handled
  • Disk cleanup is the facility used for cleaning up the junk files and unnecessary data in the memory. It will make room for other files
  • Internet Explorer is a web browser that is used for accessing the internet. The latest version called Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 is fast.
  • Windows Defender is the default antivirus that comes with the OS to protect the system from harmful viruses and malicious programs

History of Windows

Windows was announced by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1983 that was named Interface Manager. The first version was launched in 1985 as a GUI that has features of scroll bars, top-down menus, buttons, icons, and dialogue boxes.

In August 1995, Windows 95 was released that had features of dial-up networking and internet support. Microsoft Outlook, an emailing option was also introduced along with this version. Windows 200 launched with plug and play features of hardware, along with USB and mobile compatibility.

Over the years Windows has improved and features like system recovery, data backup, cloud support, advanced gaming features, and security enhancements have been included.

There are other operating systems like Linux and Mac, but Windows is perhaps the most well loved. The latest version of Windows 10 has Cortana, a virtual assistant that allows users to interact with their system by giving voice commands. Microsoft continues to improve the OS based on user requirements.
